Drivers in Northern Ireland face a 12 percent rise in the cost of Car Insurance
Drivers in Northern Ireland who already pay more for car insurance than drivers in the rest of the UK can expect a big increase in the cost of their car insurance.
The Automobile Association (AA) is predicting a price rise of between 10% and 12% on a comprehensive car insurance policy for Northern Ireland motorists. The average price of a comprehensive car insurance policy in Northern Ireland is £490 per year and so a rise of 10% could equate to an additional £50 per year for motorists.
Northern Ireland has traditionally commanded higher premiums because there are more claims for the province than anywhere else in the UK. This has been put down to a lack of motorway infrastructure, busy city streets and country roads produce more accidents than motorway driving.
It is a good idea to compare several car insurance policies when taking out or renewing your car insurance. As well as price the features and level of cover of a policy should be compared before deciding on the best option, and professional help sort if you are unsure of what’s right for you.
